Perched on the rugged edge of a forested cliff, the Orcas House by Allied8 is a bold architectural statement in minimal impact and maximal experience.
The facade is clad in aging Kebony wood that seamlessly mimics the bark of the surrounding trees, visually blending the structure into its mossy, old-growth environment. Large glass openings frame both northern and southern views, drawing light deep into the narrow volume while reflecting the ever-changing hues of the forest canopy.
The cantilevered volume projects boldly from the hillside, supported by a precision-engineered steel moment frame that anchors the home at just six discrete points. The result is a floating structure that lightly touches the earth, preserving the moss-covered forest floor below and allowing wildlife to roam freely beneath.
The compact layout is designed for both efficiency and flexibility. With a bunk room that accommodates ten and additional sleeping areas in the loft and living space, the house comfortably hosts over fifteen people. The interior centers around a communal kitchen and dining area that opens to the landscape through wide glass doors.
